The Government of Hungary established the Scholarship Programme for Christian Young People (SCYP) in 2017. The State Secretariat for the Aid of Persecuted Christians and Hungary Helps Program manages the Scholarship Programme for Christian Young People.
Since August 2020, the Hungary Helps Agency has overseen coordinating the Scholarship Program.
The Scholarship Program for Christian Young People’s main goal is to give young Christian students living in crisis areas of the world or who are facing persecution in their own country because of their faith the opportunity to study in Hungary.
After completing their studies, the scholarship recipients will return to their home communities to help them with their newfound knowledge, as well as engage in the growth of their country, and preservation of the Christian culture.
Eligibility criteria for Hungary Scholarship Program for Christian Young People
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must have the following:
- Interested individuals should be at least 18 years old at the start of their scholarship studies or will be 18 years by 31 August of the year of the specified application deadline.
- Those who have the qualifications and required language skills as a pre-requisite for the study program applied for, and
- Must have submitted the supporting document on or before the 1st of August of the current application session.
- Individuals who have received a letter of recommendation from a church group included in the Call for Applications.
All applicants are eligible for bachelor’s, master’s, and one-tier master’s programs, while doctoral programs are only open to those who have completed their bachelor’s or master’s studies in Hungary as part of the Scholarship Programme for Christian Young People or are registered for the final semester of their studies in the 2021/2022 academic year as Scholarship for Christian Young People scholarship holders.
Scholarship Benefits for Successful Applicants
The scholarship program for Christian Young People in Hungary is fully funded with the following benefits for successful candidates:
- Tuition-free scholarship
- Stipend paid monthly
- Free Accommodation
- Reimbursement of travel expenses.
- Insurance coverage for medical expenses
The processing of visas and the extension of residence permits are both free of charge for scholarship recipients. The scholarship covers one person’s living expenses and does not include visas, additional benefits, or administration services for the scholarship holder’s companions and family members.
The legal subject of the scholarship agreement is only the scholarship holder.

The first step to applying is to submit your SCYP application through this online platform, https://apply.scyp.hu.
Notably, Applicants should avoid agencies that charge a fee to assist them in applying for SCYP. It is not permissible to employ an outside party in the application procedure. In addition, the Hungary Government does not approve or endorse any of these organizations.
